JUNE 1- A MAGICAL EVENING
The Premier of “LIVE OAK TREES” at 14 Pews in the Heights. ”Live Oak Trees” is a short musical film for Houston’s 175th Birthday. This project began with Leah White’s album, Our Roots Are Strong, released September 2012.
With the support of Leah White’s non-profit fiscal sponsor, S.W.A.M.P. (Southwest Area Media Project), Leah was able to team-up with ZenFilm to release this short film celebrating Houston.
Leah White & the Magic Mirrors were harnessed to a large flat-bed truck with all of their instruments and a PA. Then they drove around Houston with Live Oak Trees filmed from this very shaky perspective. On their way, they run into all kinds of Houstons: Everyday people and some well-knowns. A clue- Mayor Parker will have a cameo.

Just to explain his reasoning for the song…he is a plaintiff’s attorney and tort reform in Texas has limited the amount of damages a person can claim for wrongdoing. Insurance companies lobbied to put a cap on the damages and so Brian will get cases where a child is injured, parents will have to fork out over the course of a lifetime multi-millions of dollars in care, but the law can only allow them to collect around 200K. As a result, you don’t find many attorneys taking on these sad cases where many need an advocate. He owns Bellaire Pediatric Dentistry and is an exceptional dentist (I should know because my three girls see him along with most of Houston’s inner-loop). He needed a song to inspire teeth brushing and the Magic Mirrors delivered. I play a mean kazoo solo on this one so you’ll have to check it out!
I’ve had countless people over the years ask me if I teach music lessons. Recently, I just started Magic Music Lessons where the Magic Mirrors come to your home and teach guitar, drums, bass and piano. Recitals are a little different than the norm with students playing at our shows. We also offer a Rock Band Class where we join several students together to form a band.
